What does a chiropractor do?
A chiropractor diagnoses and treats problems with the spine, joints, muscles and nerves using hands-on adjustments, soft tissue work and corrective exercise, without surgery or medication.
At Dayton Pain & Injury, our chiropractors treat neck and back pain, sciatica, headaches, whiplash and joint injuries, with same-day appointments and no referral needed.

What to expect at your first chiropractic visit
Your first visit takes about 45–60 minutes. Here’s how it goes.
Check in
Bring a photo ID, insurance details and any imaging. Our front desk handles the forms with you.
Health history
We talk through your pain, how it started, what makes it better or worse, and your goals.
Exam
Your chiropractor checks posture, range of motion, reflexes and the specific joints and muscles involved.
Your care plan
We explain what’s causing your pain, recommend a plan, and answer your questions.
First treatment
When appropriate, your first adjustment or soft tissue treatment happens the same day.
Home guidance
You leave with simple stretches and tips to support your recovery between visits.
We treat the root cause, not just the symptoms
Living with pain affects everything: your sleep, your work and your daily life. Ignoring a stiff neck, lower back pain or an accident injury can make it worse over time.
Chiropractic therapy is a non-invasive, hands-on treatment that restores proper alignment to your spine and joints, so your body can heal naturally, move better and avoid future problems.

Signs you may need a chiropractor
If any of these sound familiar, an evaluation can find the cause.
Neck or low back pain that returns every few weeks, or never fully goes away.
Trouble turning your head, bending, or getting comfortable at night.
Headaches that start at the base of your skull or after long hours at a desk.
Shooting, burning or tingling pain, like sciatica, that travels from the spine.
Even if you feel okay. Whiplash and spinal injuries often show up days later.
You want lasting, drug-free relief instead of masking the pain.
Chiropractic care vs. other treatments
Different tools for different problems. Many patients combine them, and we offer each under one roof.
| Treatment | Best for | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Chiropractic care | Joint stiffness, misalignment, neck & back pain, sciatica | Hands-on adjustments restore joint motion and reduce nerve irritation |
| Physical therapy | Weakness, limited mobility, rehab after injury | Guided exercise rebuilds strength, stability and movement |
| Massage therapy | Muscle tension, knots, soft tissue pain | Targeted pressure relaxes muscles and improves circulation |
| Pain medication | Short-term symptom relief | Masks pain but doesn’t correct the underlying problem |
Focused, one-on-one care

- Experience with auto & work injury cases

Common questions about chiropractic care
More questions? See our full FAQ or call (937) 910-0463.
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most patients feel little or no discomfort during an adjustment. Some feel mild soreness for a day afterward, similar to after a workout, which usually fades quickly.
What is the popping sound during an adjustment?
It’s gas being released from the fluid in your joints when pressure changes. It’s normal and harmless, and not every adjustment makes the sound.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Performed by a licensed chiropractor after a proper evaluation, chiropractic care is a safe, evidence-based option for neck, back and joint pain. We tailor every adjustment to your age, condition and comfort.
How many chiropractic visits will I need?
It depends on your condition. Recent injuries often improve within a few weeks of regular visits, while long-standing problems may take longer. We’ll give you a clear plan and timeline after your first exam.
Can a chiropractor help with sciatica and headaches?
Often, yes. Sciatica and tension or neck-related headaches are commonly linked to spinal joint and muscle problems that chiropractic care addresses.
What’s the difference between a chiropractor and physical therapy?
Chiropractors focus on spinal and joint alignment through adjustments, while physical therapy rebuilds strength and movement through guided exercise. Many patients do best with both, and we offer both in one clinic.
